Erasmus: cultural exchange with France

The Erasmus project this year at the Francesco De Sanctis school

This year, “Francesco De Sanctis” school took part in the Erasmus project by hosting 19 students from the François Truffaut High School in Beauvais (France) from March 29 to April 5, 2025. French students were welcomed by the families of our school’s students who will be hosted in France next year. In addition to spending time with us in class, accompanied by Bamian Van Eeckhout (Italian teacher, group leader) and Maxime Puyraimond (English teacher), they visited some iconic places in our region such as Pompeii, Paestum, Amalfi, the Cathedral of Naples, Spaccanapoli, Vomero. The acronym “Erasumus” stands for European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students. This initiative began almost 40 years ago when, on May 14, 1987, despite the opposition of England, in Brussels‘ Council of Ministers was voted the resolution that launched the birth of a study-abroad program proposed by Sofia Corradi, an Italian pedagogue, nicknamed "Erasmus mother". Since 1987,  in Italy, this Program has given the opportunity to almost 570,000 students to take advantage of an Erasmus grant for an abroad study or internship experience; in particular between 2014/2015 and 2019/2020 years, it financed 223,789 grants, or rather 39% of thirty-year Italian mobility. The foundamental idea is that, by studying abroad with the Erasmus plus programme, students can improve their communication skills, knowledge of foreign languages and intercultural competences, which will be particularly appreciated by future employers.
